Emergency Alert System
Messaging

The EAS option is a software only option that requires the previous instal-
lation of the Maestro Enhanced Branding Engine option. Hardware instal-
lation should refer to this and the installation instructions for the Maestro
Enhanced Branding Engine option.

Note

The EAS option is a software only feature that requires the previous installa-
tion of the Maestro Enhanced Branding Option.

The Maestro Master Control system now supports EAS messaging to
support the requirement for broadcasters in the United States to display
Test and Alert messages that are generated by the Emergency Alert System
(EAS).

An EAS message is fed by an external EAS data stream through the Maestro
Serial Tally port. This data is imported into a predefined Maestro internal
branding text crawl template, which is built specifically for each EAS crawl.
The EAS audio can come from either direct or external Routing switcher
sources. Maestro's GPIO controls the starting and stopping of EAS mes-
sages.

The Keyer 8 and Audio Over 4 buttons are controlled by EAS Messaging.
If the EAS Messaging option is used, there will be a reduction of Channel
Branding resources.

Reduced Channel Branding Resources

When the Emergency Message (EAS) option is configured, the general
purpose Channel Branding resources are reduced as follows:

One animation or text crawl source. The second source is reserved for
EAS Keyer assignment.

Three Audio Voice Over sources. Audio Mixer-4 is reserved for external
audio input from the EAS encoder.

Seven Video keyers. Keyer-8 is reserved for EAS.

One external Audio Mixer Input is reserved for EAS. The source for this
Audio Mixer Input can only be an external discrete audio source.

EAS Messaging supports up to 4000 characters in an EAS message that
is received thru the serial connection.
