Warning:
Disabling Excitation Failure Detection on an active control mode feedback signal disables
cable-loss detection, which can result in unexpected actuator movement if the active control
mode feedback cable is disconnected or cut.
A moving actuator can injure anyone in its path.
Do not disable excitation failure checking unless you are using sensors that use an external
excitation source or high-impedance sensors that do not draw enough current for the excitation
failure circuit to function properly. If you must disable excitation failure checking, be prepared for
unexpected actuator movement if the active mode feedback cable is disconnected or cut.
1. Change the user access level to Configuration.
2. In the Station Setup window navigation pane, select a sensor input signal and click the Limits tab.
3. From the Excitation Failure Mode list, choose one of the following excitation failure modes:
•
Enabled
•
Disabled
•
Enable when Active (default)
4. If the Excitation Failure Mode is set to Enabled from the Action list, select the action that will occur if an
excitation failure is detected (Series 494 Hardware only).
Excitation Failure Actions include:
•
Station Power Off
•
Interlock
•
Program Stop Interlock
