Deleting Elements from the Product

The way you delete an element from the product depends on whether you are using discovery from

HP SIM or discovery from HP SE.

Discovery from HP SIM

IMPORTANT:

This step removes elements from the discovery list and from the HP SIM database.

The deleted element can reappear if the following occurs:

If a scheduled automatic discovery task includes the deleted element, HP SIM will rediscover the

deleted element again during the next discovery.

If HP SE still lists the access point for the element, SE rediscovers the element the next time during

Discovery Data Collection/Get Details.

To remove systems from the SIM database:

1.

From the HP SIM home page, click Systems in the left pane.

2.

Select the elements you want to delete.

3.

Click Delete.

Discovery from HP SE
When you delete an element, all of its information is removed from the management server. This

includes asset information, zoning, events, statistics, and fabrics assigned to switches.
To completely delete an element from the management server you must remove the elements, such

as a switch or proxy that were used to discover the element. If you do not delete all switches and

proxies that were used to discover the element, the element may reappear the next time you Get

Details/Discovery Data Collection.
For example, assume you want to delete Switch_A. Switch_B and Switch_C were used to discover

Switch_A. If you delete only Switch_B and Switch_A, Switch_A will most likely reappear when you

Get Details/Discovery Data Collection because it is still accessible by Switch_C.
You can delete an element within the following tools:

System Manager or Chargeback Manager

- Gives you the option of deleting just the element

or deleting the element and the elements that use the same switches and proxies for access.

Discovery Step 2 (Topology)

(Discovery from HP SE only) - Gives you the option of deleting

multiple elements at a time. You are not given a detailed list of other elements you must delete;

however, you can use the table on the Discovery screen to determine which switches and proxies

provided access.

Deleting an Element Using System Manager or Chargeback Manager

To delete an element using System Manager or Chargeback Manager:

1.

Do one of the following:
