Self Key
A key effect in which the same video signal
serves as both the key source and the fill
source.
Shotbox
Using the Auto Run button to provide the
keypad with one button access to effect re-
calls and runs.
Soft Button
A Control Panel button that changes its func-
tion depending on the current menu selec-
tion. Soft buttons generally control function
flags (on or off).
Soft Knob
A Control Panel knob that changes its func-
tion depending on the current menu selec-
tion. Soft knobs generally control function
parameters (values).
Solarization
Changing the appearance of the video image
by modifying the chrominance quantization
levels.
Source
The origin of picture information. A source is
composed of a video component, and gener-
ally also has a key component.
Source Axis
The point in 3-D space around which a pic-
ture rotates. The source axis is referenced to
the picture itself.
Source ID
This feature identifies the source being dis-
played on the visible side of a wireframe.
Source Memory
The area in memory set aside for source pa-
rameters, such as Key Source, Mask, Key
Clips, etc. Source memory and Unity Key-
frame data is independent from one another.
Source Reference
Allows moves to be made relative to a pic-
ture’s own reference axes.
Source Selection
The selection of the source material that
feeds a physical channel.
System Controller
An additional frame required for multiple-
channel Krystal system operation. Contains
a Resource Manager module and at least one
Effect Manager module used for system con-
trol communications.

Target Reference
allows channel transformations to be made
relative to its assigned global; when not as-
signed to global, transformations are made
relative to the Camera reference axis.
Target Axis
The point in 3-D space around which a pic-
ture rotates. The target axis is referenced to
the target, or next higher, control level (Glo-
bal and Camera channels).
Tension
In path control, determines the length of the
tension vector.
Time Cursor
Changes the current time position in the ef-
fect; when moved, the work buffer of each
channel in the effect is changed to reflect ef-
fect values at the current time. The time cur-
sor appears on timelines as a solid vertical
line.
Timeline
A series of keyframes along a line represent-
ing time in an effect. See Master Timeline,
Function Timeline.
