Glossary-2
Krystal 4300 Reference
Control Channel
Control point on the Krystal Control Panel
used to direct the processing of Krystal’s
Logical, Global, and Camera channels.
Character Generator (CG)
A computer used to generate text and graph-
ics for video titles.
Chrominance
The colorimetric difference between any col-
or and a reference color of equal luminance.
Directly related to saturation.
Clip
A threshold level adjustment to which the
key source attribute (luminance, chromi-
nance, etc.) is compared for generating the
internal key signal. The clip
control sets the
switching point between the background
and the fill.
Clipboard
Used to store information cut, copied, or de-
leted from an effect. Clipboard information is
overwritten when a clipboard copy or cut
operation is performed.
Continuity
In path control, this adjustment determines
the angle of the path into and out of the key-
frame.
Contrast
Effect accomplished by adjusting the gain
and offset of incoming luminance as well as
control of incoming chroma levels.
Control Panel
Krystal system operator interface comprised
of buttons, knobs, lever arm, joystick, menu
display, and disk drive.
Coring
The threshold level below which video is re-
placed by black.
Corner Pinning
Method used to manipulate the edges of an
image by relocating its corners. The resulting
image is processed to fill the newly defined
edges. Krystal corner pinning is based on
source, not target, space.
Crosspoint
An electronic switch, usually part of an array
of switches, that allows video or audio to
pass when the switch is closed.
Current Effect
The effect in the register that was last re-
called. The current effect number is dis-
played on the Krystal menu screen and
Keypad display.
Current Time
The current position in the current effect.
This time is the “glue” which binds multi-
channel effects, i.e., all channels in the effect
always have the same current time. The cur-
rent time is expressed in terms of seconds,
frames, and fields (odd or even) from the
start of the effect. Negative current time val-
ues indicate times before the start of the ef-
fect.
Cursor
An indicator on a timeline representing a
particular time in that effect. See Time Cursor
and Mark Cursor.
CW
Clockwise.
CCW
Counter-clockwise.
