Glossary

A

Appearance:

The “look” of the picture image itself, inde-
pendent of any picture transformation.

Aspect

The ratio between the width and the height
of an object such as a wipe pattern or a video
screen.

Axis

The point in 3-D space around which a pic-

Background

(1) External video that forms a background
scene into which a key may be inserted.

(2) Black or colored Mattes generated by the
DPM for use as background video in key ef-
fects.

Bias

In path control, determines whether the path
will be “pulled” towards the previous or the
following keyframe.

Border

Adding matte to the edges of the holes cut by
the key signal. On Krystal systems the border
fills in from the outside edge of the key.

Brightness

The relative intensity of light determined by
the sum of responses of the eye to the compo-

B-Y

The designator used to describe the Blue mi-

video signal.

See Character Generator.

Camera Channel

Control channel that mathematically manip-

viewpoint. The camera channel performs
transforms and translations, and controls
some Combiner functions.

Channel

A digital effects processing path for video
and key signals. On Krystal systems, the
term is used for several different types of
channels. See Camera Channel, Control
Channel, Global Channel, Logical Channel,
Physical Channel, Wireframe Channel.

Combiner

Optional Krystal hardware that combines
multiple sources into composite video/key
signals with control of picture layering (over,
under mix, etc.).
