Krystal 4300 Reference
make up a frame. The duration of a field is
approximately 1/60 of a second in NTSC or
1/50 of a second in PAL (625 lines).
Flag
Control used to turn a timeline function on
or off.
Frame
One complete video picture consisting of
two interleaved fields. In the NTSC system,
one frame makes up a complete TV scanning
cycle (1/30th of a second). In the PAL sys-
tem, two frames (at 1/25th of a second) are
required to make up a complete TV scanning
cycle.
Freeze Frame
The recording or display of a single frame of
video.
Function
Data for an individual component of a digital
effect. The data can contain several related
parameters that specify different aspects of
the function (crop, border, locate, etc.).
Function Timeline
A series of keyframes that appear along a
timeline that represents a particular function
(crop, border, locate, etc.)
G
Gain
An amplification adjustment of the key
source attribute (chrominance, hue, lumi-
nance, etc.) to be used for keying. The gain
control affects the sharpness of the key edge.
Global Channel
Control channel that mathematically manip-
ulates one or more assigned logical channels
in 2-D and 3-D space. Global channels only
perform transforms and translations.
GPI (General Purpose Interface)
An electronic device containing electronic
switches that can be activated by a remote
data signal. GPIs allow external devices to
control system components.
Gray Scale
Range of luminance levels from black to
white.
H
High Tally
Buttons on the Control Panel at their bright-
est illumination. (When slightly dimmed
they are low tally.)
Hue
The attribute of light (wavelength, frequen-
cy) which determines the color perceived
(red, blue, green etc.). Specified by phase re-
lationship to color burst in composite video.
Any saturated color which is not one of the
three primaries may be treated as a combina-
tion of two primaries.
I
Independent Timeline
A series of keyframes that appear along a
timeline that represent a particular function
(e.g., crop, border, locate, etc.) Independent
timelines can be modified separately from
other timelines.
Insert Key
A key in which a portion of the background
signal is replaced with an insert (fill) signal.
Interpolation
Creation of intermediate values for functions
between keyframes. Also known as “in-be-
tweening”.
