Glossary-3

D

Delegate

The Control Panel, or a section of it, is dele-
gated to a channel or function if Control Pan-
el changes affect parameters associated with
that channel or function. For example, a con-
trol channel is delegated for control by the
panel by lighting the Deleg. button for that
channel. The joystick is delegated to a trans-
form function by lighting a transform but-
ton.

Detent

A system defined increment of position, size,
angle of rotation, or amount of perspective
(usually based on screen or picture size).
Pressing the Center button once sets the dele-
gated transform to the closest evenly divisi-
ble detent value. For example, the spin
transform detent is 0.25, resulting in detent
values of 0.0, 0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.00, 1.25, etc.

Duration

The length of time expressed in seconds,
frames, and fields (odd or even) that a partic-
ular effect or keyframe lasts.

DPM (Digital Picture Manipulator)

manipulate a video picture to change its size,
shape, rotation in space, etc.

DPOP

Double Press Open. Double pressing a panel

Effect Register

An area in memory representing one com-

a two digit number from 00 through 99.

Effect Manager

The electronics that calculates all of the pa-
rameters needed to produce an effect. These
parameters are delivered to the Video Pro-
cessors (up to four) which perform the actual
image processing.

Enabled Channel

Channels that run as part of the current effect
and can be edited. Channels are enabled by
pressing the associated Control Panel Enable
button.

Enhanced Image Fidelity

This option provides cleaner resolution by
changing the way in which the luminance,
chrominance, and key signals are processed.

Enhanced Video

See Enhanced Image Fidelity.

E-MEM (Effects Memory)

A Grass Valley proprietary effects-memory
system capable of storing and recalling DPM
and Switcher effects.

External Key

An input signal to Krystal used exclusively
as a key source.

F

Field

One complete scan of the TV screen by the
electron beam. In the NTSC standard, two in-
terleaved fields of 262 and 263 raster lines
make up a frame. In the PAL standard, two
interleaved fields of 312 and 313 raster lines
