About Entering Credentials for Elements in HP SIM
For elements you want to discover and manage in HP SIM, you must enter each element’s
credentials as WBEM settings regardless of the protocol used to discover the element. You can set
global or system-specific WBEM settings in HP SIM.
•
For system-specific WBEM settings
- click Options > Protocol Settings > System
Protocol Settings
.
•
For global WBEM settings
- click Options > Protocol Settings > Global Protocol
Settings
.
See the HP SIM documentation for more details.
About Discovering Devices Through HP SIM and SNMP
Devices discovered by HP SIM through specific SNMP connection credentials may not be
discovered by the management server, as the management server requires the read-only SNMP
community string for the device (which is usually “public”). HP SIM can pass along the read-only
SNMP community string to the management server by one of two methods:
•
In HP SIM specify the read-only SNMP community string as the WBEM user name for that device
and specify any non-blank string as the password.
•
Set the read-only SNMP community string as user name and any arbitrary password for a user
name/password combination in HP SIM's global protocol settings.
Setting Default User Names and Passwords
Both types of discovery let you set default user name and passwords.
Discovery from HP SIM
Use the Global Settings (Options > Protocol Settings > Global Settings) feature to set your
default user name and passwords. Users can provide user name and passwords for multiple types of
settings, such as for WBEM and SNMP.
