I. INTRODUCTION
WCC III Technical Guide
I-6
SATELLITE TYPES
The satellite controllers are fi
eld mounted and then fi eld
programmed. The satellite controllers are microprocessor-based
units that provide direct digital control of the building’s mechanical
systems. The satellite controllers receive operating instructions
from the WCC III - MCD, but once they are programmed, they have
the “brains” to monitor and can control the building mechanical
systems independently of the WCC III - MCD. If communication
from the WCC III - MCD to the satellite controllers is broken,
the satellite controllers will continue to control at a predefi ned
programmable “Local Set” setpoints. In the event of a short
period of primary power failure, the satellites will retain both their
operating instructions and accumulated data in battery backed
memory.
Currently there are the following types of SAT Controllers:
•
SAT III ( OE421)
•
SAT 3C ( OE454)
•
SAT 3D ( OE455)
•
SAT 3P ( OE455-P)
•
SAT 3F ( OE456)

The SAT III controller is an enhanced product upgraded replacement
for the older SAT II controller that WattMaster Controls has sold
for many years. The newer SAT III controller has exactly the same
number of inputs and outputs that the older SAT II controller had.
The older SAT II data fi le can be reused along with all of the other
older WCC II data fi les. The newer SAT III controller is a drop-
in functional replacement for the older SAT II controller, but the
SAT III’s use requires that the WCC II front-end computer must
be replaced with a WCC III – MCD. Sensors and relays etc. are
wired to the SAT III controller to allow it to monitor and control
loads directly. See Section 14 for specifi c use and application of the
SAT III controller.
Each SAT III controller can handle the following number of inputs
and outputs:
•
8 Analog Inputs with 12 bits of resolution (Can also
be used as Binary Inputs)
•
16 Control Outputs (Relay N.O. Contacts)
•
8 analog outputs (0-15 VDC maximum range) -
Any or all of the 8 analog outputs may be converted
to Binary outputs with single additional WCC III
Vout RELAY board (Relay N.O. Contacts)
