Chapter 9 - Electrical

287

The oil pressure sensor on the Caterpillar engine
is located on the inboard side of the block,
between the oil filter and the injector pump.
See Figure 9.25.

The oil pressure sender on the Kohler engine is
located in the valley between the two cylinders.
It is necessary to remove the air filter base to
reach it. See Figure 9.26.

The Kohler oil sensor has a single wire, and
grounds through the body of the switch.

The Caterpillar oil sensor has two wires. One
wire leads to the hour meter, and the second one
is grounded to the cylinder head.

The oil sensor contacts generally close at
around 2-3 PSI (.14-.21 Bar) on the Kohler
engines. Caterpillar has not provided informa-
tion about their pressure switches.

21b. The Fuel light is Illuminated when a float

in the fuel tank sinks far enough to close a
set of contacts. See Figure 9.27.

The contacts complete a path to ground, send-
ing a signal to the hour meter to illuminate the
fuel LED.

The purple wire leads to the hour meter, the
green wire leads to ground.

The fuel sensor plug is accessible beneath the
passenger’s seat for testing, but fuel tank
removal is necessary to remove the sensor from
the tank. Refer to the Kohler Service Access
and Fuel System chapter of this manual for spe-
cific instructions.

21c. The Hour meter is simply a clock that runs

when the key is in any position other than
STOP. See Figure 9.28.
