Chapter 9 - Electrical

18.
The Fuel Shut-off solenoid for the Caterpillar
engine is mounted on the front of the injector
pump, on the inboard side of the engine.
See Figure 9.20.
•
An orange wire provides power to the fuel pump.
Ground is through the frame via a green wire
paired with the orange wire.
•
The green wire grounds to the engine block,
along with the rest of the engine harness.
•
The orange wire provides battery voltage,
unfused, from the regulator when the key is in
any position other than STOP. This is the same
circuit that powers the fuel pump.
•
A single click can be heard and felt at the fuel
shut-off solenoid each time it turns on or off.

The 4x4 Activation switch contains a simple
open-or closed set of contacts. The switch is
easily removed from the dash panel by unplug-
ging the electrical connector and squeezing the
tabs on the narrow sides of the switch.
See Figure 9.21.
•
The switch receives power from the same
orange-wire circuit as the fuel shut-off solenoid
and fuel pump in diesel applications.
•
The switch has power when the key is in any
position other than STOP.
•
When four wheel drive is engaged, power is
passed directly to the electric clutch in the front
differential, via a yellow wire with black trace.
20.
The 4x4 Electric Clutch resides in the front dif-
ferential. See Figure 9.22.
