13r. Connect the rear pieces of pipe to the
appropriate hoses coming-off the engine:
The to-radiator pipe connects to the hose
from the thermostat housing.
The return pipe connects to the hose from
the water pump.
NOTE: Pipe positioning:
The to-radiator pipe is high and outside of the
return pipe at the rear of the vehicle. It bends-
down under the passenger’s seat, crossing-over
the return pipe. The front of the to-radiator pipe
is inboard of the return pipe.
The return pipe connects to the water pump
beneath the to-radiator pipe, with and outward
jog and down-ward jog to cross under the to-
radiator pipe as it goes forward. The front of the
return pipe is outboard of the to-radiator pipe.
13s. Position the two short lengths of hose on
the rear set of pipes.
13t. Install the front length of the return pipe,
then install the front length of the to-radia-
tor pipe.
NOTE: The return pipe needs to go in first
because it fits between the frame channel and
the to-radiator pipe.
NOTE: Insert the back end of the front lengths
first, then draw the front lengths toward the front
of the vehicle for final positioning.
13u. Secure the pipes to the frame using the
mounting tabs and bracket (previously
removed).
13v. Tighten all the hose connections.
13w. Check closely to confirm that none of the
hoses will foul any rotating parts:
•
Pay particular attention to the proximity of the
return hose to the fan belt and crankshaft pulley.
See Figure 8.91.
•
Pay particular attention to the proximity of both
front hoses to the right front inner C.V. joint.
See Figure 8.92.
13x. Top-up and pressure test the cooling sys-
tem as described in the Draining and Fill-
ing Coolant section of this chapter before
returning the vehicle to service.
