Position each bearing cone in its side of the cup,
and press the seal in flush behind it using a flat
driver. See Figure 4.66.

Installation notes: wheel bearings
23a. Install the brake caliper bracket and
shield. Use threadlocking compound
such as Loctite® 262 (red) near the end of
the threads on each bolt, and tighten them
to a torque of 22-26 ft-lbs. (30-35 N-m).
23b. Support the lower control arm.
23c. Slip the hub into position over the axle,
with the lower ball joint aligned to fit into
the bore on the hub.
23d. Re-connect the upper ball joint, and
tighten the nut to a torque of 22-28 ft-lbs
(30-38 N-m).
23e. Carefully drive the upper control arm and
hub down to seat the lower ball joint. Use
a block of wood to protect the upper ball
joint and control arm.
23f. Secure the lower ball joint to the hub
assembly with a retaining ring.
23g. Re-connect the tie rod end to the hub.
Tighten the lock nut to a torque of 22-28
ft-lbs (30-38 N-m).
23h. Install the brake rotor on the hub, and
secure it with the heavy washer and cas-
tle nut.
23i. Tighten the axle nut to a torque of 150-165
ft-lbs. (203-224 N-m) and secure it with a
new 5/32”x1-1/4” (.4x3.175cm) cotter pin.
23j. Install the brake pads and caliper. Tighten
the mounting pins to a torque of 22-26ft-
lbs (30-35 N-m), and secure them with C-
clips.
24.
Install the wheel, and tighten the lug nuts to a
torque of 75 ft-lbs (102 Nm).
25.
Lower the vehicle to the ground.
26.
Test drive the vehicle in a safe area before
returning it to service.
