FUEL SYSTEM: DESCRIPTION

CAUTION: Gasoline and it vapors are extremely
flammable. Use common sense when working
around the fuel system:

Do not work on any part of the fuel system or fill
the vehicle with fuel while the engine is running
or hot.

Store gasoline only in approved containers in
well ventilated area.

Keep gasoline away from any sparks, open
flame or other sources of potential ignition.

Clean any spilled fuel immediately, and ventilate
the area thoroughly to prevent the accumulation
of fumes. Keep sources of ignition away from
the spilled fuel and its vapors.

Dispose of stale fuel and any fuel-soaked mate-
rial in a safe, environmentally responsible man-
ner.

1.

The fuel tank is mounted beneath the passen-
ger’s seat. It has a capacity of 7 gallons (26.5L).

2.

The filler cap is non-vented. See Figure 7.35.

CAUTION: The fuel caps for gasoline and diesel
versions of this vehicle use the same neck size
and thread. The fuel caps are distinctly labeled.
Though they are mechanically interchangeable,
it is strongly recommended not to switch fuel
caps between the gas and diesel engines. This
may lead to mis-fueling. Gasoline in a diesel
engine will cause immediate and severe engine
damage.

Fuel line:

Gasoline powered utility vehicles made for the
year 2006 are subject to CARB Tier III Emission
regulations.

To meet these regulations, they are equipped
with Low Permeation SAE 30 R7 rated fuel line.

This fuel line can be identified by the green let-
tering on it, and should not be replaced with fuel
line that does not meet the same specifications.

4.

The fuel line is covered by an insulating sleeve
between the fuel filter and the fuel pump to pre-
vent vapor lock in high ambient temperatures.

5.

The carburetor is equipped with an after-fire
solenoid that stops fuel flow when the key switch
is turned-off.

NOTE: For engine-specific information on the
fuel pump and carburetor, refer to the Owner’s
Manual and Service Manual published by
Kohler
that apply to the engine in this vehicle.

6.

The fuel filter is accessible near the #2 cylinder
valve cover. The recommended service interval
is 200 hours of operation. If the fuel has been
contaminated with debris or water clean the sys-
tem and , replace the filter. See Figure 7.36.

7.

To reach the fuel tank for most service require-
ments, remove the rear fender and splash shield
as described in the ENGINE MAINTENANCE
ACCESS section of this manual.
