Chapter 9 - Electrical

•
When power is applied from the engagement
switch, the clutch engages without any noise or
perceivable motion.
•
Once engaged, the front drive shaft is linked to
the pinion shaft, driving one front wheel. There
is also an over-running clutch within the differen-
tial that will drive the second front wheel if the
first one begins to slip.
• Typical resistance through the windings at an
ambient temperature of 68 deg. f. (20 deg.c.) is
73-73.5
Ω. This figure may be higher at higher
temperatures.
•
Service parts may eventually become available
for the front differential. Presently, they are not.
If the four wheel drive does not function, and the
differential is getting full power and a good
ground when engaged, replace the complete dif-
ferential.
21.
The Warning light cluster, Hour Meter and
external indicator lights (indicator lights in diesel
only) are mounted in the dash panel. The hour
meter is installed and removed from the side of
the panel that faces the operator.
•
Because the dash is covered with an overlay, it
is necessary to remove the electrical devices
from one side of the dash, and peel-back the
overlay in order to remove the hour meter.
See Figure 9.23.
•
A variety of sensors feed information to the hour
meter. Internal circuitry reads this information
and provides the operator with appropriate sig-
nals.
•
The function of each wire connected to the
Instrument Cluster / Hour Meter is described in
the table below:
21a. The Oil light is a red LED that illuminates
when the oil pressure has fallen below a
safe operating level.
The oil light responds to a sender on the
engine that has normally closed con-
tacts.
When oil pressure is sufficient for safe
operation, the contacts open, breaking a
path to ground, turning-off the LED.
See Figure 9.24.
