The method you should choose depends on the circumstance and the level of control you want in
allocating resources to the partition. In Automatic mode, the library assigns available system resources
to create the number of partitions you specify. Automatic mode is not available if a partition already
exists. Manual mode enables you to pick specific drives, storage magazines, and magazines within
an I/E station to assign to a partition.
If one or more partitions already exist in the library, you must manually create a new partition to
allocate drives, storage slots, and I/E station magazines. You have two options to allocate system
resources when manually creating a new partition: Simple and Expert modes. In Simple mode, you
can specify the quantity of each element you want assigned to the partition. In Expert mode, you can
indicate which specific drives, storage magazines, I/E station magazines, or if enabled, extended
I/E station magazines to assign to the partition.
NOTE:
Make sure that you have adequately planned for the number of partitions that you want to configure.
Creating Partitions with the Setup Wizard
If you are performing an initial configuration of your library, you can use the Setup Wizard to
automatically create partitions using the available system resources. See
. Using the Setup Wizard is part of the normal installation procedure for a library.
NOTE:
You should run the Setup Wizard only when you initially configure the library.
The Automatic radio button will be disabled if there are partitions already configured. This indicates
that the Setup Wizard has already been run and you should create partitions by using Setup >
Partitions. See
Creating Partitions Manually Using Simple Mode
