8 Make sure that the server starts operating and that the green power lamp (

) lights up.

See “(6) System status indicators” on page 14.

If the green power lamp does not light up
See “The green power lamp does not light up” on page 192.

After the server has been started, check the operation of POST, which deter-
mines whether the trouble is caused by defects in the system board or keyboard
or by inappropriate setup. If the server stops prior to completion of POST,
immediate remedies are required since a fatal system error is occurring. Take
note of the error message displayed on the screen and the tone quality of the
speaker sound (that is, “beep” code). These pieces of information will be very
useful for your Toshiba servicemen to provide repair services.

Since POST checks the presence of a large-volume storage unit(s) in the server,
the indicator lamps on each system component are required to function
properly.

9 Make sure that the FDD lamp on the floppy disk drive lights up properly.

If the lamp does not light up
See “The FDD lamp does not light up” on page 193.

10 Make sure that the status indicators lamps on each magnetic disk unit or on

the SCSI unit contained in the server light up properly.

If the lamps do not light up
See “The HDD status indicators do not light up” on page 193.

If RAID controllers are added, perform RAID configuration damage checks
with POST.

When the server is started, the display unit will display the prompt appropri-
ate for the OS (operating system).

If the prompt is not displayed
See “Startup Trouble” on page 190.
