• Frequently back up the hard disk. Your data and your time are
precious. Should hard drive data loss or failure occur, a current backup will
eliminate the need for time-consuming system configuration from the original
floppy disks. Backups should be done on removable high-capacity mass
storage media.
• Use hard disk maintenance utilities: The regular use of hard disk
maintenance utilities such as Norton Utilities will greatly reduce the risk of
hard drive failure, data loss and degraded performance of the hard drive
12.2 Troubleshooting
If you have a problem with Isis, either use the diagnostics that come with your
system or refer to the troubleshooting chart included in this chapter. These aids
should isolate most problems that could occur to a particular board or drive. If
you still cannot isolate the problem, call Triton Elics for help.
12.3 Hardware Diagnostics
Isis comes with a commercially available, robust set of hardware diagnostics
capable of testing for a wide-range of PC hardware conditions. In addition, the
software has been enhanced to help you diagnose Isis-specific hardware
conditions. These include tests for:
• array processor
• DSP board
• graphics processor
• SCSI controller
• trackball
12.3.1 Array
Processor
This diagnostic checks for the presence of an i860 or earlier type of array
processor. The diagnostic also runs the manufacturer’s tests appropriate for
the type of processor found.
