the name of the feature or area that will be tagged and logged, and

the file names that contain the feature or area.

The sample table shown above shows such a scheme. Deciding on, and
using, a method such as this makes it much easier to find the saved points
later, after you have finished conducting your data survey.

5. Click

OK.

6. Isis closes the Edit Descriptions dialog box and makes the Digitize Lines

and Polygons dialog box the active window. If there is a descriptive entry
for the first set of points, that entry now shows in the drop-down
Descriptions text box. From this drop-down box you can choose (but
not edit) a descriptor you may have typed in the Edit Descriptions dialog
box. To re-edit your list, again choose Edit Descriptions from the
Digitize Lines and Polygons dialog box.

9.3.3

Choosing a Tracking Method

In the Digitize Lines and Polygons function of Isis, you choose one of three
tracking methods from the Automatic tracking (linear features) area of the
dialog box:
Manual — You pick each starting and ending point or points; the system

picks none.

Semi-automatic — You pick the starting point, the type of interval (in

seconds, meters, or pings) and how frequently the points should be
plotted; the system plots points for one screenful of data that follow a
linear feature and stops logging tracked points (regardless whether the
waterfall was paused or not in its scrolling).

Fully automatic — You pick the starting point, the type of interval (in

seconds, meters, or pings) and how frequently the points should be
plotted; the system attempts to pick all points, for the length of the file
opened in Isis, that follow a linear feature).

If you are in Playback mode, you can choose to pause or not pause the
scrolling imagery before you enter points. Pausing is advantageous for the
most precise placement of points and lines. If you are in Record mode,
pausing cannot be used with Digitize Lines and Polygons.
