Maintenance and

Troubleshooting

The Isis modular data acquisition system is built from highly reliable components
and requires a minimum of maintenance. However, to deliver the maximum
performance and to avoid premature hardware failures, you should periodically
perform maintenance procedures as described below.

12.1 Periodic Maintenance

There are several preventative maintenance steps that should be taken at least
once each week and as often as once each day during continuous field or
laboratory operation of Isis:

Clean the air filters. Isis has two air filters, which should be cleaned
often. One filter is found behind the vent plate on the front panel. Unscrew
the plate to remove the filter. The other filter is located on the back panel.
Snap the cover off to remove the back panel filter.

Keeping your air filters clean is important. Dirty air filters will restrict
the flow of cooling air to the hardware components, which can cause
heat damage and/or failure.

Degauss the monitor. Electromagnetic interference can cause
distortion of the image on the monitor. Use only the monitor’s own internal
degaussing device. Press the Degauss button on the monitor control panel.
Subsequent degaussing should only be performed after a 20-minute interval.
(If you try to degauss sooner than that, degaussing will not occur.)

Use of an external degaussing device can permanently
damage the Isis monitor. Use only the monitor’s own internal
degaussing device.
