File Format

Three possibilities exist: Isis (also known as XTF, or extended
Triton format), Q-MIPS (generic DAT), or SEG-Y. The
organization, layout and content of these formats is documented in
segyfmt.h, available from the TEI FTP site. You can get there from
www.tritonelics.com.

Number of
Sonar Channels

As set in the Sonar Setup submenu of the File menu, these are the
total number of user-specified channels (up to 32) being used to
record or play back your data imagery.

Samples per
Channel

As set in the File Format submenu of Record Setup, these are the
number of user-specified samples that each channel uses to
record imagery.

Bits per Sample

As set in the File Format submenu of Record Setup, these are the
number of user-specified bits (either 8 or 16) that each sample will
use to hold data.

Bytes per Ping

Using the numerical data specified in the file’s format and the
sonar’s setup, Isis calculates the number of bytes per ping and
displays it here. Bytes per ping is an important metric because it
can be used compute the total amount of disk space required to
record a data survey of a specific length of time.
