8.2 Time Domain Reflectometry Testing
Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) allows the user of the CableSHARK to easily identify faults (if any) along
a given section of cable. Results can be displayed in feet, meters, or nanoseconds. This test is extremely
useful in locating bridge taps (multiple appearances) and the end of the cable. Faults such as opens, shorts,
splices, split pairs and wet sections can easily be found using a high quality TDR such as the CableSHARK’s
integrated TDR solution. See Section 3 for more details on Time Domain Reflectometry.
8.2.1 Setting up a TDR Test
From the Main Menu, pressing function button F1 (CABLE TESTS) will bring the user to the CABLE TESTS
pop-up menu. Choosing TDR from the pop-up menu (and subsequently Auto-Cable End, Auto-Bridge Tap,
Manual, or Manual-4 Wire) will invoke the TDR TEST SETUP menu. The sections that follow will explain the
operation as each of the control keys is pressed and their respective screens appear. Figure 8.2.1A below
shows the TDR Test Menu.
