8.9 Isolation Resistance Test
The CableSHARK’s Isolation Resistance Test allows users to generate a high voltage onto the copper pair
to measure the isolation between tip and ring, between two pairs, and from tip or ring to ground. The
measured resistance of the fault is displayed. The time the voltage is applied, in other words the "soak" time
is programmable by the user. The amount of current is low and controlled to protect the user. This test is not
only useful for identifying high resistance faults but also locating them.
NOTE: If Measurement Standards under System Setup is set to ANSI, then the CableSHARK’s
ISOLATION RESISTANCE Measurement will be titled STRESS/LEAKAGE METER.
8.9.1 Setting up an Isolation Resistance Test
From the Main Menu, pressing function button F1 (CABLE TESTS) will bring the user to the CABLE TESTS
pop-up menu. Choosing ISOLATION TEST from the pop-up menu will invoke the ISOLATION TEST setup
menu. The following sections will explain the operation of this test. Figure 8.9.1A below shows the Isolation
Setup Menu.
