7.8 Spectral Detective

Note: This is an optional Single-Ended test.

The CableSHARK’s Spectral Detective is a PSD noise test that uses a high impedance bridge to measure
an active circuits PSD to ensure it meets with spectral compatibility guidelines.

1. From the Main Menu, select CABLE TESTS (function button F1).
2. Choose SPECTRAL DETECTIVE from the pop-up menu.
3. Ensure that the Noise Filter is set to NONE (disturber ID on) for an unbiased look at the cable.
4. Press the RUN / STOP button to start the test. The results will be displayed on screen in an easy to

understand format.


To repeat the test, press the RUN/STOP button. You can also change option settings if you wish by pressing
the function button associated with FREEZE, and then TEST SETUP.


7.9 Digital Multimeter (DMM) Test

Note: This is a Single-ended test.

A DMM is a useful tool for performing metallic type testing on a loop to identify voltage or current on the line
as well as to measure the resistance or capacitance of the line. The loop length can be estimated by
measuring capacitance.

1. From the Main Menu, select CABLE TESTS (function button F1).
2. Choose DIGITAL MULTIMETER TESTS from the pop-up menu.
3. Using the SELECT NEXT or SELECT PREVIOUS function keys, select the desired Test Type (Auto-12,

Voltage, Current, Resistance or Capacitance).

4. Press the RUN / STOP button to start the test. The results will be displayed on screen in an easy to

understand format. Users can also switch between Tip and Ring, Tip and Ground, and Ring and
Ground.
