Press the RUN/STOP button on the front of the CableSHARK to initiate the test. The RUN/STOP button can
be pressed at any time to stop a test that is running. Figure 8.4.2A shows an example of the results
obtained from an Impulse Noise Measurement test.

For IMPULSE NOISE, the user can see the threshold that was set, the time remaining to perform the test
and how many impulse noise spikes that are above the threshold have occurred. Once the Impulse Noise
test is complete, the Time Remaining will indicate 0 s. The test has been completed.
For NOISE PSD, the test measures the power spectral density (PSD) of the noise as well as the RMS noise
energy. The test result will be shown in two portions as shown in Figure 8.4.2B. The first portion is the PSD
result, which consists of a graph showing the PSD to 2 MHz (or 6 MHz) of the measured noise with
resolution of 2.15625 kHz (or 4.3125 for 6 MHz bandwidth), a cursor frequency indicator and the PSD value
at the cursor location in terms of dBm/Hz. The second portion is the RMS noise energy measured value in
terms of dBm. NOTE: Press the FREEZE button to stop the continuous NOISE TEST.
