Locally
Administered
Address Network administrators can assign locally administered
Token Ring addresses. These addresses allow the network
administrator to logically group user addresses. For
example, all users on the third floor can be assigned
addresses in a given range. All users on the second floor
are assigned addresses in a different range. Another
example is assigning addresses based on the user’s
telephone number.
Assigning To assign a locally administered address, select the
Enabled check box. Next, select the Local Address field
and enter the address. You must enter all digits. The
address must fall within the legal address range from
400000000000 to 7FFFFFFFFFFF.
Removing To clear a previously assigned locally administered
address, deselect the Enabled check box.
CAUTION: If locally administered addressing is used, the
network administrator must ensure that all addresses are
unique. Duplicate Token Ring addresses are illegal.
