Glossary
Current Sale
The POS console can keep track of two sales for each pump. The current sale for a pump is
the sale that is displayed when you first press a Pn key. Also refer to
Cursor
A visible mark or character (sometimes flashing) on a CRT monitor indicating where the next
character you type will appear.
Data
Information in the form of characters or words.
Database
A large, organized collection of information that can be retrieved by the Site Controller or
other computer. The transaction information is a database.
Default
The actions the CFN System automatically takes or the configurations it initially uses, unless
and until you tell it otherwise.
Department Key
The product keys on the POS console can be used for departments, such as deli, grocery, or
miscellaneous non-taxable.
Dip Switch
Stands for dual in-line package switch. DIP switches are mounted on the printed circuit
boards of some CFN System components. DIP switch settings can be changed to configure
some functions.
Directory
Files on a SC III hard disk, RAM disk, or floppy disk can be organized in directories.
Directories have been compared to drawers in a file cabinet, but a CFN3 directory can have
other directories (subdirectories) under it.
Disk
A flat circular device with a magnetic surface upon which Site Controller III programs and
data are stored. Though the disk itself is circular, it is enclosed in a square casing, so you
cannot see its circular shape.
Disk-based Command
A disk-based command is a CFN3 command that is on a hard or floppy disk instead of being
part of the Site Controller’s operating system. Disk-based commands work just like other,
system-based, CFN3 commands, but the command must be on the SC III’s hard disk (if there
is one) or a floppy disk with the command on it must be in the SC III’s disk drive to execute
the command.
