Creating a file system — EVA4000 storage

5–11

Depending on the number of LUNs that have an MDS role, you may now be prompted to choose MDS LUNs,

as follows:

If there are no LUNs with an MDS role, the

create filesystem

command terminates. In this case,

you must assign the MDS role to LUNs (see Section 5.1.3) and enter the

create filesystem

command again.

If the exact number of LUNs with an MDS role that are needed for the file system are available (for

example, a total of two MDS LUNs available when a file system with mirrored MDS LUNs is being

created), the system selects the LUNs without prompting, prints a message such as the following, and

then proceeds to the next configuration step.

Using LUNs 3 and 4 for the MDS LUNs.

If there are more LUNs with an MDS role available than are needed for the file system (for example,

more than two MDS LUNs available when a file system with mirrored MDS LUNs is being created), a

list of all LUNs with an MDS role is displayed, and you are asked to specify which MDS LUN the file

system is to use. The list shows only MDS LUNs that are not already part of a file system.

Select only one LUN; in this example, LUN 3 is chosen.

LUN Array Controller Role Size (GB) Visible to Preferred
--- ----- ---------- ---- --------- ---------- ---------
3 1 A mds 72 south[1-2] -
4 1 B mds 72 south[1-2] -
.

.

.

Please enter the MDS LUN to use []: 3

If you specified earlier that the file system is to use mirrored MDS LUNs, the list of available LUNs is

shown again. Select a second MDS LUN that is on the same array, but in a different disk group. Note

that the output does not specifically display the name of the disk group to which a LUN belongs.

However, because LUNs in different disk groups should be preferred to different EVA4000 controllers,

you can use the

Controller

field as an indicator that the LUNs are in different disk groups; that is,

a LUN that is preferred to the

a

controller is in a different disk group to a LUN that is preferred to the

b

controller.

You are now asked to specify how many OST services the file system is to use.

You need to specify the OSTs to use in the filesystem.
There are currently 8 available LUNs with 1.13TB of free space

LUN Array Controller Role Size (GB) Visible to Preferred
--- ----- ---------- ---- --------- ---------- ---------
8 2 A ost 290 south[3-4] -
9 2 B ost 290 south[3-4] -
10 3 A ost 290 south[3-4] -
11 3 B ost 290 south[3-4] -
13 4 A ost 290 south[5-6] -
14 4 B ost 290 south[5-6] -
15 5 A ost 290 south[5-6] -
16 5 B ost 290 south[5-6] -

Please enter the number of OSTs in the filesystem []: 6

You are now asked to specify a LUN number and preferred server for each OST service. Each time you select

a LUN, the list is displayed again with that LUN removed from the list.

In this example, LUN 8 is chosen as the first LUN, with

south3

as the preferred server.

Here are the available LUNs which you can assign to OSTs:

LUN Array Controller Role Size (GB) Visible to Preferred
--- ----- ---------- ---- --------- ---------- ---------
8 2 A ost 290 south[3-4] -
9 2 B ost 290 south[3-4] -
10 3 A ost 290 south[3-4] -
11 3 B ost 290 south[3-4] -
13 4 A ost 290 south[5-6] -
