Troubleshooting failed SFS20 arrays

9–55

When you reboot the affected servers, the

show array

command shows a

failed

status. Because

an array is attached to two servers, there are actually two status values, one for each server. The

following shows an example of the

show array

command:

sfs> show array 2
.

.

.

Connected to HBA/Port Status
-------------- ---------- ----------
south3 scsi-1/2 failed
south4 scsi-1/2 online
.

.

.

In this example, the

south4

server appears to show a status of

online

. There are two possible

reasons for this, as follows:

The

south4

server is shut down (and the status is stale). When the

south4

server is rebooted,

check the status again. If both servers now report a

failed

status, the fault is in the SFS20

storage array.

The

south4

server is running normally and the SFS20 storage array is responding. In this case,

there may be a fault in the UltraSCSI cable connecting the

south3

server with the SFS20

storage array.

If you created MDS or OST services that were mirrored across two arrays, the MDS or OST service

can continue to run when one of the SFS20 arrays involved has failed. However, the service is

running in

degraded

mode. The

show filesystem

command shows if an MDS or OST service is

running in

degraded

mode, as shown in the following example:

sfs> show filesystem

Name State Services
------ -------------- ----------------------------------
data started mds8: running(raid: degraded), ost[29-30]: running

If the SFS20 array contains a service LUN, when you reboot the affected servers they are unable to

access the service LUN. The result differs depending on whether the array is attached to the

administration and MDS servers or to a pair of Object Storage Servers, as follows:

If the array is attached to the administration and MDS Servers, the

sfsmgr

(8) command reports

that the database is unavailable.

If the array is attached to a pair of Object Storage Servers, the servers boot, but the

show

server

command reports that the servers are not configured, as shown in the following

example:

sfs> show server

Name State Power Services
---------- -------------- -------- ----------
south1 running on admin
south2 running on mds7
south3 not-configured on
south4 not-configured on

Use the

show lun

command to confirm that the failed array contains a service LUN for the server

pair, as shown in the following example:

sfs> show lun
.

.

.
