Managing licenses

3–19

When you edit the

/var/flexlm/license.master

file, note the following rules:

Do not remove or modify the lines that start with

SERVER

,

USE_SERVER

and

VENDOR

.

To update a line starting with

INCREMENT

, insert or remove the line in its entirety. You must not

change any text on these lines. In particular, you must not change the number of licensed units,

specified in terabytes (TB). Doing so invalidates the license.

An

INCREMENT

may be split across several lines. Use the backslash character (

\

) to indicate the

line break. Alternatively, you can remove line breaks. Generally, the system will tolerate line

breaks that have been introduced by email systems.

All elements of the license file (including the

SIGN

information) must be exactly as they appear

in the license files from HP, otherwise the increments will not work.

2.

Enter the

accept license

command on the administration server. You must perform this step to

reload the licenses into the license system. When prompted to accept the license terms, enter

yes

.

3.

Copy the license files to the MDS server, as shown in the following example, where

south2

is the

MDS server.

# scp /var/flexlm/* south2:/var/flexlm

4.

Enter the

show license

command on the MDS server.

3.11.4Licensing additional storage capacity to the system

When the system is first installed, it usually has enough license units to allow you to use the available storage

capacity of the system. However, it is possible to add additional storage capacity. You can configure the

additional storage but you will be unable to create or modify a file system that uses this additional storage

until you increase the number of licensed units.

When you purchase an additional license, you will receive a License-To-Use letter and a License File Request

Form from HP. These documents indicate the type of storage—enterprise (EVA4000) or capacity (SFS20)—

and the number of units (in terabytes) licensed. Use the procedure described here to obtain a license file

and install the license on your system.

1.

Complete the License File Request Form, as follows:
a.

Determine the license host ID of the administration server by logging in to the administration

server and entering the following commands:

# sfsmgr
.

.

.

sfs> show license
.

.

.

The license host id of this server is 000bcd505cbb

b.

Determine the license host ID of the MDS server by logging in to the MDS server and entering

the following commands:

# sfsmgr
.

.

.

sfs> show license
.

.

.

The license host id of this server is 000bcd827644

c.

Enter the license host ID of the administration server and the MDS server on the License File

Request Form exactly as they are displayed by the

show license
