5.6 Modifying file system attributes
You can use the
modify filesystem
command to modify the following attributes of a file system:
•
The number of OST services used for the file system.
Adding OST services to the file system increases the size of the file system. The file system must be
unmounted on all clients before OST services are added. There are constraints on the amount of
space that can be used on the new OST services. For information on how to add OST services to file
systems, see Section 5.6.1.
•
The stripe size of the file system.
Changing this attribute changes the default stripe size that is applied to newly created files. However,
the stripe size of existing files is not changed.
•
The stripe count of the file system.
Changing this attribute changes the default stripe count that is applied to newly created files.
However, the stripe count of existing files is not changed. HP strongly recommends a stripe count of
one.
•
The mount point of the file system.
Changing this attribute affects client nodes that attempt to mount the file system after the attribute is
changed. Client nodes that have already mounted the file system remain mounted on the original
mount point.
When a client node mounts a file system, the
sfsmount
(8) command creates a mount point for the
file system. The user can specify a mount point that is different from the default mount point of the file
system as displayed by the
show filesystem filesystem_name
command. (Refer to the
HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share Client Installation and User Guide for information on mounting
and unmounting file systems on client nodes.)
•
The preferred server for OST and MDS services.
Changing the preferred server for OST and MDS services is a method of rebalancing server loads.
For information on how to change the preferred server for OST and MDS services, see Section 5.6.2.
•
LUN mount options.
In this version of the HP SFS software, the
extents
option may be set for OST services, and the
acl
and
user_xattr
options may be set for MDS options. For more information on setting mount
options, see Section 5.6.3.
•
The interconnects used for file system I/O operations
When a file system is created, all interconnects that are detected or defined in the HP SFS system are
used for the file system. You can later use the
modify filesystem
command to add interconnects,
or to restrict the list of interconnects for the file system.
•
Lustre timeout
The timeout is a reference time used by Lustre to time various operations. The default value when
creating a file system is 200 seconds.
Do not change the default Lustre timeout unless you are requested to do so by your HP Customer
Support representative.
•
Quota options
Quotas ensure that users do not consume more than their allocated their disk consumption limit. You
can enable quotas on an existing file system. HP strongly recommends that you use the default values
