Creating a file system — EVA4000 storage

5.1.2 Step 2: Matching array numbers to physical arrays — EVA4000 storage

To determine what role you will assign to each LUN, you must first determine which physical storage array

the LUN is on. When you installed the system, you identified the WWIDs of each EVA4000 storage array.

Each controller on the arrays also has a unique serial number. You will now use this information to match

the WWIDs of the arrays to the array numbers shown in the output from the

show lun

command.

To identify the WWID of an array, enter the

show lun

command to display information about a LUN on

the array, as shown in the following example, where LUN 3 is on array 1:

sfs> show lun 3

LUN (WWID): 600508b4-00010138-00010000-00240000
LUN (Number): 3
Device: /dev/hpls/dev3a
Array (WWID): 50001fe1-0013a6c0
Array (Number): 1
Array (Name): P4889B29IKT04F
.

.

.

From the output shown here, you can see that array 1 has the WWID

50001fe1-0013a6c0

. The name

of the array is not known to the system, but the serial number of one of the controllers on the array

(

P4889B29IKT04F

) is used. You can use the controller’s serial number to find out more information about

the array, as shown in the following example:

sfs> show array P4889B29IKT04F

Array (WWID): 50001fe1-0013a6c0
Name: P4889B29IKT04F
Array Number: 1
Type: EVA4000
Preferred Server: -
Firmware: 4100
Total Disks: -
Free Disks: -
Controller: P4889B29IKT04F
Controller: P4889B29IKW01Z

LUN (WWID) Controller Number of Paths
---- ----------------------------------- ---------- ---------------
1 600508b4-00010138-00010000-00240000 A 2
2 600508b4-0000c070-00013000-00340000 B 2
3 600508b4-0000c070-00013000-002c0000 A 2
4 600508b4-0000c070-00013000-003a0000 B 2
5 600508b4-0000c070-00013000-004a0000 A 2
6 600508b4-0000c070-00013000-005a0000 B 2

Use the commands shown here to determine which physical array each LUN is located on, then decide

which roles you want to assign to each LUN.

Proceed to Section 5.1.3 to assign roles to the LUNs and specify preferred controllers for the LUNs.
