1.1.3.3.2 Management network
Figure 1-6 shows how the servers in the HP SFS system are connected to the management network.
Figure 1-6
HP SFS management network
The management network is a private network.
There are two connections between each server and the internal HP SFS management network—the primary
connection is a direct one, while the secondary connection uses the Integrated Lights Out (iLO) interface.
The primary connection is used for network booting and general control. The iLO connection is used for
power control. The management network is a private network.
The MDS server and the administration server are connected to the site network. All servers in the HP SFS
system are connected to one or more system interconnects; these connections are not shown in Figure 1-6.
In systems where EVA4000 storage is used, the Fibre Channel switches can also optionally be connected
to the management network.
1.2 Supported operating system software
HP SFS servers are installed using the installation procedure described in Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 of the
HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and Upgrade Guide. The HP SFS server kernel is
based on the Linux Kernel Version 2.6.9 with additional kernel patches supplied by HP to enable the system
to perform as a Lustre server. Only the Linux server kernel supplied with the HP SFS product is supported.
For details of the supported client operating systems, refer to the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share Client
Installation and User Guide.
