9.25 Troubleshooting the Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect

This section provides some useful tips for investigating and solving potential problems with a Voltaire

InfiniBand interconnect. The section contains the following information:

Start, stop, and loading problems (Section 9.25.1)

Voltaire HCA adapter is not recognized (Section 9.25.2)

Voltaire HCA adapter is not activated (Section 9.25.3)

Connection and data transfer problems (Section 9.25.4)

AD_TAVOR : vvi_mlx_poll_for_completion messages (Section 9.25.5)

9.25.1 Start, stop, and loading problems

This section describes how to start and stop the InfiniBand interconnect, and is organized as follows:

Determining whether Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect is loaded (Section 9.25.1.1)

Starting, stopping, and auto-starting the Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect (Section 9.25.1.2)

Server hangs when Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect is started (Section 9.25.1.3)

9.25.1.1 Determining whether Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect is loaded

When the Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect is started, the associated modules are normally automatically

loaded. When a logical link is present (that is, the Voltaire InfiniBand interconnect is running correctly), the

two LEDs on the Voltaire HCA adapter will be lit (one orange, one green) for the port connected to the

InfiniBand switch.

To determine whether the modules are loaded, enter the following command:

# lsmod

If the modules are loaded, the output includes the following lines. In particular, note that if the

ipoib-ud

module is listed, this is a good indication that all of the necessary modules are loaded:

sockets 60248 0 (unused)
sdp 177840 0 [sockets]
ipoib-ud 164672 1
