To upgrade a single Gigabit Ethernet interconnect in an existing HP SFS system to become a dual or a
bonded Gigabit Ethernet interconnect, perform the following steps:
1.
Unmount the file systems on all client nodes.
2.
Stop all file systems, as shown in the following example, where the
data
file system is stopped:
sfs> stop filesystem data
Repeat this command for each file system.
3.
Enter the
show filesystem
command and verify that all MDS and OST services used by the file
systems are stopped.
4.
Shut down all of the servers in the system, as shown in the following example:
sfs> shutdown server south[1-8]
5.
Add the dual-port Gigabit Ethernet NC7170 network adapter into the first PCI slot of each server.
Refer to the documentation for the adapter and the server for details on how to add PCI cards safely
on your particular server type.
6.
Boot all of the servers.
7.
You now need to use the
configure system
command to configure the new network.
•
For a dual Gigabit Ethernet network:
•
Section 2.4.2.2 of the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and
Upgrade Guide describes the factors that need to be taken into consideration when you
are configuring a dual Gigabit Ethernet interconnect; read that section before you
configure the new network.
•
Refer to Section 6.8.2.1 (or Section 7.4.2.1) of the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share
System Installation and Upgrade Guide for information on how to use the
configure
system
command to configure the new network.
•
For a bonded Gigabit Ethernet network:
•
Section 2.4.2.3 of the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and
Upgrade Guide describes the factors that need to be taken into consideration when you
are configuring a bonded Gigabit Ethernet interconnect; read that section before you
configure the new network.
•
Refer to Section 6.8.2.2 (or Section 7.4.2.2) of the HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share
System Installation and Upgrade Guide for information on how to use the
configure
system
command to configure the new network.
8.
Reconfigure all of the servers in the system by entering the
configure server
command, as
shown in the following example:
sfs> configure servers south[1-8]
9.
If a Gigabit Ethernet interconnect was not previously used as an interconnect for any of the file
systems, you must now modify the file systems that are to use the Gigabit Ethernet interconnect. Enter
the
modify filesystem filesystem_name
command, select the
Change interconnect
option, and add
tcp
as an interconnect for the file system.
Repeat this step for each file system that is to use the new interconnect.
10.
Start all file systems.
11.
When the file systems restart, the client nodes can remount the file systems. If a client node fails to
remount a file system, reboot the client node.
