6.6 Viewing and clearing the Integrated Management Log

6.6.1 Overview

The Integrated Management Log (IML) on each server contains information about hardware events,

including power-on self-test (POST) events, on that server.

When you enter the

show server server_name

command, the monitoring software counts the number

of

critical

and

caution

events for the previous 30 days and displays the total in the output from the

command. The

syscheck

command also reports critical (for

critical

events) or warning (for

caution

events) severity messages.

If there are any critical events (that is, the critical count is not zero), review the IML as described in

Section 6.6.2 and resolve all critical issues as soon as possible. A default email alert warns you if critical

events are present in the IML; see Section 6-4 for details.

6.6.2 Viewing the IML

You can use the

hplog

command to view the contents of the IML, as follows:

# ssh south2 hplog -v

Note the following points:

It is common to see

POST

events related to the keyboard. You can ignore such events.

Before the HP SFS software is installed on the server, the date and time are not set. These events,

which are

caution

events, can also be ignored.

Investigate and resolve

critical

events as soon as possible.

6.6.3 Clearing the IML

When you are satisfied that the issues described by the events have been resolved, you can clear the IML.

You can clear the IML in two ways, as follows:

Use the

hpasmcli

command as follows (on the server where you want to clear the log):

# hpasmcli -s "clear iml"

Use the iLO browser interface. You can run Mozilla on the administration server and use a URL such

as

http://south2-mp

to connect to the iLO.
