Troubleshooting file system performance

9–35

7.

Verify that the storage is configured

correctly.

1.

Examine the HP SFS system database to ensure that the file

system is correctly configured and all of the services are

correctly distributed (see Chapter 4).

2.

(EVA4000 storage only) Using the Command View EVA Web

interface, view events for each EVA4000 array and look for

any hardware errors. Also verify LUN configuration (see

Chapter 4 of this guide and Chapter 5 of the HP

StorageWorks Scalable File Share System Installation and

Upgrade Guide for more information).

3.

(EVA4000 storage only) Examine the performance statistics

in the Fibre Channel switches, as described in Section 9.27.9.

4.

Ensure that the storage is not running a RAID rebuild on any

disk group.
For SFS20 storage, see Section 6.1.4 for information on how

to check the logical drive status.
For EVA4000 storage, refer to the HP StorageWorks

Enterprise Virtual Array 4000 User Guide for information on

how to check the virtual disk levelling status.

5.

Verify that a software RAID rebuild is not occurring. See

Section 9.33.3 for more information.

6.

Determine whether RAID parity initialization has been

completed on the array.
The RAID parity initialization process is started (by the

configure array

command) when an array is

configured. The performance of an array is not optimal until

parity initialization is complete. Use the

show array

array_name

command to view the status of the logical

drives on the array; if parity initialization has started on the

array but has not been completed, the status of the logical

drive is shown as

parity initializing

.

7.

Test LUN I/O performance. See Section 6.1.5 for more

information.

8.

Examine performance statistics.

Performance metrics are gathered automatically (unless the

enable_collectl

attribute has been disabled). Use the tools

described in Section 4.7 to view performance statistics on a

running system.
