Troubleshooting file system performance

Use the

telnet

(1) command to access the Fibre Channel switch, as shown in the following example:

# telnet 192.168.32.1

The throughput statistics for the ports on a switch are refreshed once every second. To view details of the

speed that each port on the switch is running at, log in to the switch and enter the following command. In

this example, the command is run on switch

p16fc1

, which is inactive:

p16fc1:admin> portPerfShow

The output is displayed in bytes per second, with the appropriate modifier (for example, 17k is 17 kilobytes,

17m is 17 megabytes, and so on).

To determine what component is using each port, enter the

switchShow

command, which displays the

WWID seen at each port, as shown here:

The example output shows the following:

Port 15 is connected to another Fibre Channel switch on the storage subsystem.

Ports 12 and 13 are connected to the controllers accessing the storage (this can be seen by the

50:00

prefix to the WWID).

Servers in the HP SFS system are connected to ports 0, 1, 2, and 3 (prefixed with

21:00

or

21:01

).
