8.2.2 Upgrading firmware on

Smart Array 6404 adapters and

SFS20 arrays

The HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share Release Notes provide details of the correct firmware version for

the SFS20 array as well as details of where you can obtain firmware source files.

This section provides instructions for upgrading the firmware on all SFS20 arrays and all Smart Array 6404

adapters in your HP SFS system.

If you want to upgrade only the firmware on the SFS20 arrays, skip Steps 4, 5, and 12.

If you want to upgrade only the firmware on the Smart Array 6404 adapters, skip Steps 6, 7, 8, and

13.

To upgrade the firmware on all SFS20 arrays and all Smart Array 6404 adapters in your HP SFS system,

perform the following steps:

1.

Obtain the appropriate firmware executable (

.scexe

) files (refer to the HP StorageWorks Scalable

File Share Release Notes for details of the correct firmware version as well as details of where you

can obtain firmware executable files).

2.

Stop all file systems.

3.

Stop the clustering software on all servers in the HP SFS system, by entering the following command

on each server:

# service cluster stop

4.

Copy the Smart Array 6404 adapter firmware executable file to the

/var

directory on each server.

5.

Run the executable file on each server to upgrade the adapter firmware.

6.

Shut down one server in each server pair; for example, shut down all even-numbered servers.

7.

Copy the SFS20 array firmware executable file to the

/var

directory on each of the servers that are

still running (for example, all odd-numbered servers).

8.

Run the executable file on each of the servers that are running.

9.

Shut down the servers where you have run the executable file.

10.

Power cycle all of the SFS20s arrays in the system.

11.

Boot all of the servers in the system, as described in Section 3.1.

12.

When all of the servers in the system have booted, start the SFS CLI and enter the

show server

server_name

command for each server to verify that the firmware version on the adapters is

correct.

13.

Enter the

show array array_number

command for each array to verify that the firmware has

been upgraded to the correct version.

8.2.3 Upgrading firmware on an InfiniBand adapter

The HP StorageWorks Scalable File Share Release Notes provide details of the correct firmware version for

InfiniBand adapters.

Firmware files for Voltaire PCI-X HCA adapters are included in the HP SFS server software and are

automatically placed in the appropriate directory when the HP SFS system software is installed. The

firmware on the adapters is not automatically upgraded when the HP SFS system software is installed.
