9.24 Troubleshooting the Myrinet interconnect

This section provides some useful tips for investigating and solving potential problems with a Myrinet

interconnect. In this section, the term node is used to refer to any system that is connected to the interconnect:

a node can be a server in the HP SFS system, or a client node. The term nodeset is used to describe the

collection of nodes that are on an interconnect.

9.24.1 Start, stop, and check status

When a Myrinet interconnect is used, the associated software module on the nodes is the

gm

module.

To start the

gm

module on a node, enter the following command:

# /etc/init.d/gm start

To stop the

gm

module on a node, enter the following command:

# /etc/init.d/gm stop

To determine the status of the

gm

module on a node, enter the following command:

# /etc/init.d/gm status

To determine whether the

gm

module is started at boot time, enter the following command:

# chkconfig --list gm

9.24.2 Myrinet interconnect stress test

To run a stress test on the Myrinet interconnect, enter the following command:

# /opt/gm/bin/gm_stress

9.24.3 Nodeset and Node ID information

To determine the ID of a node on the Myrinet interconnect, enter the following command:

# /usr/sbin/gmlndnid -l

To determine what nodes are visible to a node on the Myrinet interconnect, enter the following command:

# /opt/gm/bin/gm_board_info

The nodeset is determined by the

gm_mapper

utility, and the nodeset is updated only if the

gm_mapper

utility is running. You can start and stop the

gm_mapper

utility using the Myrinet interconnect driver. To

determine if the

gm_mapper

utility is running, enter the following command:

# ps auwwx | grep gm_mapper | grep -v grep

If the

gm_mapper

utility is not running, start it by entering the following command:

# /etc/init.d/gm start mapper

9.24.4 Disconnected link in Myrinet 2XP interconnect

If the output from the

gm_board_info

command does not show details of the route table for a server, this

may indicate that a link has been disconnected in the interconnect. The following example shows the output

in such a case:

[root@delta3 root]# /opt/gm/bin/gm_board_info
