5.1.3 Step 3: Setting roles, preferred controllers, and disk group information for

LUNs — EVA4000 storage

NOTE:

In the example output shown in this section, the MDS role is assigned to four LUNs. This

configuration allows for two file systems, with two (mirrored) MDS LUNs for each file system.

NOTE:

Setting the preferred controller for a LUN allows the HP SFS software to determine the appropriate

HBA and path to the LUN, and this improves performance.

You can set the role, the preferred controller, and the disk group information for a LUN at the same time, as

follows:

1.

Use the Command View EVA Web interface to review each LUN in turn. Identify the following

information for the LUN:

The WWID of the LUN

Whether the

Preferred path/mode

field for the LUN is set to

Path A Failover/

failback

or

Path B Failover/failback

The disk group the LUN is in

2.

Enter the

show lun

command for the LUN and review the LUN information, as shown in the

following example. In this example, the role and the preferred controller have not been set for the

LUN:

sfs> show lun 600508b4-0000c06a-0001c000-008d0000

LUN (WWID): 600508b4-0000c06a-0001c000-008d0000

Array (Number): 1

---------------- --------- --------- --------------------
south1 none fc-0/A2 fc-0/B2 fc-0/A2
south2 none fc-0/A2 fc-0/B2 fc-0/A2

3.

Set the preferred controller, role, and disk group information for the LUN by entering the

set lun

command, as shown in the following example. In this example, the role is set to

mds

; for OST LUNs,

set the role to

ost

:

sfs> set lun 3 preferred_controller=A role=mds disk_group=1

Do not specify a user for the LUN—the user is automatically assigned when the file system is set up (see

Section 5.1.5):

When you have finished assigning roles to all of the LUNs, use the

show lun

command to check the LUN

assignments, as shown in the following example:

sfs> show lun
