How to Back Up System Data
Backup System Data and Disk Files
BACKTRAN
The BACKTRAN command operates like TRANBACK. The difference is that
TRANBACK backs up data to a file called TRANBACK.DTA, but
BACKTRAN allows you to name the file it creates.
Use the disk-based command BACKTRAN and the redirection option > with
the name of the file the transaction data should be stored in:
BACKTRAN;>filename
Because BACKTRAN is a disk command, a copy of it must be in your search
path.
How to Restore Your Backup Data
1
Log in as Administrator
2
Open an NT command window (Select Start->Programs->Command Prompt).
3
Go to the SC3 directory using the command:
C:\ cd SC3
4
Insert the first BACKUP diskette in the A:drive.
5
At the NT command prompt type:
C:\ SC3 \ RESTORE
You will be prompted to insert diskettes if more are needed.
6
When Backup is completed, quit the command window.
RESTORE will extract all compressed data from the backup diskette(s) and
place it in the SC3 directory. This will over write any possibly newer data that
could exist there.
How to Write-protect Backup Diskettes
You should set the write-enable tab on your backup diskette to the write-protect
position before you try to restore data from the diskette. That way, you cannot
accidentally write over or erase the data you are trying to restore.
shows the write-enable tab and indicates the write-protect position.
When the little window on the disk is open, you cannot overwrite the data
already on that disk. When the window is closed, you can overwrite the data.
