Fuel Allocation

The CFN III system allows you to allocate a set amount of fuel to a customer or
group of customers with proprietary cards. The allocation number is a field on
the proprietary card. The CFN III uses allocation totalizers to track the amount
used. When all of the allocated amount has been used, the Site Controller
denies access to the customer or customer group.

You can use a fuel allocation system to ration fuel or to ensure that only a
designated amount of fuel will be available to a specific customer group.

This chapter explains how to set up and maintain an allocation system.

Do not confuse this type of allocation with hourly allocation. Hourly allocation
limits the amount of fuel that may be accessed by a card within a specified time
period. It applies to bank cards as well as proprietary cards. Hourly allocation is
set up in the Site Controller configuration. (Refer to the Cumulative Limit Time
parameter in the System parameters chapter of MDE-4316 CFN III
Configuration Manual for details.)

How to Set Up an Allocation System

To set up an allocation system:

• Determine the allocation numbers you want to use, and the number of

gallons (or litres) or dollars you want to assign to each one. Refer to the
allocation bulleted list below to help you decide how you want to allocate
fuel.

• Decide the length of the allocation numbers and the location of the

allocation number within the card account number (for more information,
see the Proprietary cards chapter in this manual and the Allocation
Account Offse
t parameter in the System parameters chapter of MDE-4316
CFN III Configuration Manual).

• Encode the allocation numbers on the cards in the location you decided.

The allocation numbers can be from 0 through 32,766. The allocation field
must be the same length on all cards.

• Configure the Site Controller for the maximum number of allocation

numbers you will use, the number of digits in allocation numbers, and the
location of the allocation number within the card account number. The CFN
III system maintains allocation totalizers only for allocation numbers
currently defined. Configure for as many allocation numbers as you will
need; you can remove one temporarily if you are not currently using it.
However, do not configure for more than you plan to use since extra
numbers needlessly take up memory space.
