A sensor reading is the value or status associated with the sensor. Sensors are either
•
Analog or threshold sensors, which have values, such as a voltage or temperature
reading.
•
Discrete sensors, which have status. Each discrete sensor asserts or deasserts up
to 15 events, including standard IPMI-defined events and events specific to
Express5800/A1160 systems. The reading value for a discrete sensor is a numeric
code that represents the status and provides no additional meaning.
Sensors are the core control mechanism for management firmware. Use the sensor
readings, along with the event log, to diagnose problems and answer questions, such as
•
Why is the health status for the partition not normal?
•
Why does the partition not boot successfully?
•
What event triggered an alert notification?
•
What errors occurred during diagnostics tests?
