5.4. BIOS
Windows
BIOS windows provide a hierarchical view of BIOS options. Each window contains a title
bar at the top, a control bar at the bottom, and an operational pane in the center. The
operational pane contains the options that are available for the corresponding title. For
example, the front page window (
Figure 5-1
) contains the main categories of tasks:
•
Continue (for continuing the booting process)
•
Boot Manager (for changing the current boot process)
•
BIOS Setup (for changing operational settings)
•
Boot Maintenance Manager (for changing the boot options)
•
Update Firmware (for installing a new BIOS release)
The BIOS Setup window contains the main categories of operational settings (refer to
5.8 Configuring BIOS Settings
for descriptions):
• General
• Partition
• Advanced
• Security
Each item on a window can be
•
A link to another window
•
An option with a setting, such as a date or time, On, Off, Enable, Disable, X, or
blank
Note: The setting X means the option is enabled, and a blank means it is disabled
or off.
If available, help appears in the upper right corner for the selected item on the window.

Controls
The BIOS windows use the controls for moving the cursor and making selections that
are displayed on the bottom of each window. The following list identifies the controls and
describes the behavior of each control:

Up and down arrows
Move the cursor up or down to highlight the desired option or select a value from a
list.
