If a drive fails, you can use RAID Viewer program, one of the program of Universal RAID
Utility, to determine the location of the device in the drive tray. The identifiers of the disk
drive are labeled Physical Drive in the RAID Viewer window.
Refer to the Universal RAID Utility User’s Guide for operations of the Universal RAID
Utility.
Perform the following procedure to identify a failed hard drive:
1. Log on the system containing the hard drive to be replaced using the system
administrator password.
2. Start
the
RAID Viewer
program.
The RAID Viewer window shows the managed systems.
3. On the tree view (left side of the RAID Viewer Window: refer to
Figure 11-15
), click
the Physical Device whose information is to be displayed, and click Properties on
the pull-down menu of menu item File.
The General tab indicates the property of the Physical Device (
Figure 11-16
).
When an array device fails, logical device warning icon (
) and physical device
error icon (
) appear on the tree view, and information on the failed device and
array is added to the Universal RAID Utility log file.
To locate the physical drive when using SAS disk drives, perform the following
procedures:

Click
a
Physical Device
to be located on the tree view.
y
Select
Locate (Lamp)
on the pull-down menu of menu item Control, and then
click ON.
DISK lamp on the Physical Device goes on (or blinks), or you can get the slot
information from the Physical Device Properties (
Figure 11-16
).
