Section 8

Performing Partitioning Actions

A partition is one or more cells running a single instance of an operating system or a
virtual machine monitor. You use partitions to run applications that perform work to
support your enterprise. This section contains information about maintaining partitions
on your system to suit your processing needs.

Use the remote console interface for the system as a whole to perform partitioning
actions.

8.1. Overview of Partitioning

Your system arrives with partitions already specified as you ordered them. If your
system has more than one cell and you need to change the existing partitions, you can
perform the following partitioning actions:

Move cells from one partition to another.

Create new partitions.

• Delete

partitions.

Note: A partition is deleted when you move all cells out of it to another partition.

Change the boot cell of a partition.

Figure 8-1

shows the system partitioning page with its available actions. In this example,

the system consists of four cells and four partitions. The procedures in this section refer
to elements of the system partitioning page.
