3.5.2. Command Buttons
The following command buttons appear on the partition summary page:
• Power
Up/Down
If power status is off, this command powers up the cell and partition and boots the
operating system. If power status is on, this command shuts down the operating
system ungracefully and shuts down the partition by removing power from all cells
in the partition.
Note: Applying DC power to a cell applies power to all cells in a partition that are
not already powered on. Likewise, removing power from a cell shuts down the
partition and its operating system.
• Soft-Shutdown
Sends a request to the operating system to shut down and powers off the partition.
The operating system shuts down gracefully, if possible, but might force a hard
shutdown, if necessary. The partition is powered off unless the Do not power off
cells on the next power down
command check box is selected on the power
settings page (refer to
3.5.9 Power Settings
).
Caution
Only a soft shutdown can result in a graceful shutdown of the operating
system, during which files can be closed and data saved. All other actions
cause an ungraceful shutdown of the operating system, and data can be lost.
• Power
Cycle
Shuts down the operating system ungracefully, shuts down power for the specified
interval, and then turns power on and reboots the operating system.
• Hard
Reset
Shuts down the operating system ungracefully and reboots the operating system;
power remains on.
• Force
Dump
Takes a memory dump, sends a nonmaskable interrupt (NMI), and shuts down the
operating system ungracefully.
