N6 ENERGY & PROCESS ASSESSMENT PROTOCOL

N.3.2 Comparison of temperature corrected data

To make heating energy consumptions comparable it is necessary to apply a
temperature (degree day) correction. This was done in the Building EQ case
study multi purpose building at the University of Stuttgart

Figure N3. Heating energy consumption during the years 2001 and 2007 (degree day corrected).

Figure N3 shows that at the end of 2004 an energy assessment was performed.
It resulted in energy savings of 36.7%. Energy consumption increased in the
year 2006 by more than 10%. This was due to ineffi cient operation as can be
seen in Figure N4. This was corrected at the end of 2006, but energy con-
sumption could not be kept down to the 2005 level in 2007 (due to missing
continuous commissioning). Here a more detailed analysis requires at least
monthly data. Monthly consumption data are suitable to perform more de-
tailed analyses. This is shown in Figure N4 which provides the data of Figure
N3 divided into the monthly contributions.
